NFPA Recommendation

The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) is active in the area of hydraulic fluid selection criteria, in order to assist operators in optimizing the performance of their hydraulic systems. NFPA Recommended Practice T2.13.13-2002 “Fluid Viscosity Selection Criteria for Pumps and Motors” was developed in cooperation with all of the major hydraulic pump manufacturers, and offers a summary of the fluid viscosity requirements for thousands of pumps. Most importantly, this document also lists the maximum and minimum viscosity requirements that must be met to avoid pump damage.

RohMax strongly recommends that NFPA T2.13.13-2002 should be consulted whenever a fluid is selected for a hydraulic system. The NFPA practice recognizes that the use of high viscosity index fluids are often required when extreme hot or cold operation is necessary, or in many cases where one fluid is desired to meet the needs of several types of pumps. Please click here to consult the calculator tool on this website which offers NFPA fluid viscosity grade recommendations for many pumps and motors, at the conditions that you experience with your equipment.

RohMax recommends the use of MEHF fluids formulated with DYNAVIS® whenever high viscosity index fluids are required. The excellent shear stability and robust inhibitor additive package will ensure long fluid life, and peak system performance.
